Here's the scoop

on rec programs

Coed adult volleyball through the Aurora Parks-Rec Department is under way through April 12. Sessions for those 14 years old and older gather Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harmon School's gym. There is a $5 drop-in fee per session.

Adult men's basketball for those 14 and older continue Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 16 from 8 to 9:45 p.m. in Harmon's gym. The final adult dodgeball session of the season is March 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller School's gym.

Registration for spring adult softball runs until March 24 for returning teams and March 31 for new teams. Team must register in person, by mail or over the phone, and the cost is $450 per team. Games start in mid-April. A managers' meeting will be April 4 at 6 p.m. in the Walker Building.

The registration deadline for the prekindergarten spring soccer program is April 7, with games to be played on Sundays from April 23 to June 4. Signup deadline for all other youth age divisions is March 17.

Registration deadline for girls recreational softball leagues is April 28, with practices starting the week of May 15 and games from June 3 to July 22.

Late registration is under way until March 15 for Aurora Baseball League recreational teams. Practices begin in early April and games will start in early May. The season is over by July 4.

KSU squads begin

MAC tourney play

The regular season came to an end last week for the Kent State University men's and women's basketball teams, and the Mid-American Conference tourney is under way this week.

The men (18-13 overall, 10-8 MAC) beat Bowling Green 74-67 and lost to Akron 66-56. Against BG, Jaylin Walker had 18 points, Jimmy Hall had 17 points and 15 rebounds and Deon Edwin added 15 points. Against Akron, Hall had 16 points an 11 rebounds, Walker had 13 points and Edwin add12.

Meanwhile, the women (19-11, 13-5) beat Miami of Ohio 78-51and Buffalo 80-71. Against Miami, Larissa Lurken had 24 points, Jordan Korinek added 20 points and 12 rebounds and McKenna Stephens had 14 points. Against Buffalo, Lurken had 32 points, Megan Carter had 13, Korinek 12, Stephens 11.

The women got the third seed in the MAC tourney and will face the Toledo-Akron winner tonight (March 8) at 7:30 at Quicken Loans Arena.

The men are sixth seeded and were to play Central Michigan on March 6. The winner plays March 9 against Buffalo.

The MAC finals are March 11 in the afternoon for the women and in the evening for the men.
