AKRON -- Junior Lara Ketonen was a shining star for the Aurora High girls swim team at the Division I sectional meet Feb. 11 at the University of Akron.

Not only did she best huge fields of swimmers to finish first in the 50 freestyle (24.25) and 100 freestyle (53.13), she set a sectional record in the shorter event and will move on to this weekend's district meet at Cleveland State University in both events.

The girls team placed sixth out of 14 teams, while the Greenmen boys placed 14th out of 24 teams in the Division II meet.

"The swimmers had a great weekend," said coach Amanda Marlow. "The girls moved up three places as a team over last year's placing. They worked so hard all season and it clearly showed. We [the coaching staff] are speechless from the lights-out swims we saw."

Ketonen's 50 and 100 freestyle clockings were both school records, but those weren't the only school records that fell.

All of those teams placed eighth, and the 200 medley and 200 free relays will move on to the district meet.

In addition, Sapochetti (1:09.13, eighth place) and Lieberth (1:09.66, 12th place) set school records in the 100 breaststroke and will move on to district competition.

Palian, Stechler and Sapochetti advanced to the district.

On the boys side, three individuals and one relay team advanced to the district meet.
