7th-graders go unbeaten
Harmon School's seventh-grade girls basketball team ended the regular season with a 14-0 record after beating Twinsburg 47-16 and Tallmadge 30-19 last week.
The eighth-grade team finished 9-5 after beating Tallmadge 34-30 and losing to Twinsburg 34-26. The teams were scheduled to play in the Suburban League middle school tournament over the weekend.
Youth hoops games set
The annual Aurora Parks-Rec Department travel youth basketball tournament begins tonight (Feb. 8) and runs through Feb. 12 for boys and girls in grade 4 to 6. Several Aurora teams will compete. For a schedule of games, visit www.auroraoh.com/491/Basketball
Kent State men win two;
women are 12-11 on year
Kent State's men's basketball team improved to 13-10 overall and 5-5 in the Mid-American Conference with two wins last week. The Golden Flashes beat Eastern Michigan 70-64 and Miami of Ohio 66-62.
Against EM, KSU was led by Jimmy Hall's 24 points and 11 rebounds. Mitch Peterson added 13 points and Jaylin Walker had 11. Against Miami, Hall had 12 points and 12 rebounds, Deon Edwin had 12 points, Jalen Avery had 10 and Walker had 9.
The University of Akron (19-4 overall) continues to lead the Eastern Division of the MAC with a 9-1 record.
KSU's women's basketball team stood 12-11 overall and 6-5 in the MAC heading into this week's action. It lost to Buffalo 77-62 and beat Miami 84-66.
Against Buffalo, Jordan Korinek scored her 1,000th career point for the Flashes and had 23 points, while Larissa Lurken added 21. Against Miami, Lurken had 30 points and Korinek had 21 points and 12 rebounds.
The men travel to Toledo on Feb. 11 and host Miami of Ohio on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. The women go to Akron on Feb. 11 and host Ohio University on Feb. 18, both at 2 p.m.
Coaches are eyed
Aurora Parks-Rec Department youth programs are always looking for coaches. They can create a positive learning environment for children teaching sportsmanship, fundamentals, teamwork and responsibility.
A coach should have a desire to work with children, be enthusiastic, patient, organized, dependable and responsible. Coaches must be 18 years of age, pass the concussion certification online course and pass a criminal background check (once a year).

Cavs action slated
The Cleveland Cavaliers have several games on tap in the next couple of weeks, starting with tonight's (Feb. 8) game at the Indiana Pacers.
They will play Feb. 9 at the Oklahoma Thunder before coming back to Quicken Loans Arena on Feb. 11to face the Denver Nuggets at 7:30 p.m.
On Feb. 14, the Cavs will play at the Minnesota Timberwolves, and then on Feb. 15 they will host the Indiana Pacers at 7 p.m.
The NBA All-Sar Game is Feb. 19 in New Orleans.
