Aurora High grapplers advance in duals, win Cable 9 tri

AURORA -- The Greenmen wrestlers moved on to the regional semifinal round with a 63-6 victory over Chardon on Jan. 25 on the home mats.

Earlier in the evening, Chardon had beaten Madison. The No. 1-seeded Greenmen now will face No. 2-seeded Mentor tonight (Feb. 1) on the local mats.

Whichever team wins that match will advance to face the winner of the Brecksville-Maple Heights match in the regional finals for a berth in the state quarterfinals. The state duals finals will be Feb. 12 at Ohio State's St. John Arena.

Recording pins against Chardon were John Papesh (120), Dominic Stuber (145 pounds), Will McGhee (152), Jacob Loudon (182), Connor Bizjak (195), Bubba Arslanian (220) and Mason Copley (285).

Other winners were Ben Rogge (106), Jack Gorman (126), Mark Howard (132), Jarrod Brezovec (138) and Colin McNamara (170).

The Hilltoppers managed to win only two matches.

In the Cable 9 triangular Jan. 28 at Twinsburg High, the Greenmen beat Nordonia 75-6 and Twinsburg 58-21. No individual results were available from those matches, as were no results from the Jan. 26 match against Crestwood.

Aurora will host the Suburban League tournament Feb. 4, with action starting at 9 a.m.
