Aurora -- The Greenmen boys golf squad hopes to gain momentum at this cruicial time of the season, but a tough schedule has not helped so far in the win / loss column.

Heading into this week's action, Aurora was 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the Suburban League American Conference, and head coach Dave Munson is focused on continued improvement.

Facing a strong Solon team, Aurora played well Sept. 16 in a tri-match at Barrington. Solon beat the locals, 162-172, with Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy coming in third at 182.

Jack Schroeder paced the Greenmen with a 2-over par 38. He beat Solon's Tyler McRill (39) and Jake Cadwell (41), plus CVCA's Wyatt Ashton (41).

Schroeder leads Aurora with a 43.0 average.

"Jack was even-par going into the seventh," noted Munson. "He is playing well, and that was his best score of the season."

Also playing well were Michael Avalon and Jeremy Thorn, who each turned in rounds of 43. James Robinson had 48, Will Snyder 49 and Matthew Maselli 50.

Aurora fell 159-180 to Copley on Sept. 15 as J.T. Forster led the Indians with a 37 at Rosemont. "Copley had three guys in the 30s and shot extremely well," said Munson.

Thorn carded a 43 to lead the Greenmen, while Robinson had a 45.

The Greenmen won 167-204 over Streetsboro on Sept. 13 on the Raccoon Hills front nine (par 35).

Schroeder led with a 41, while Snyder, Avalon and Thorn each had 42s. Brandon Schambach added a 46, and Streetsboro was led by Alex Lanzdorf's 47.

Aurora had some good swings in the Sept. 12 tri-match at Walden against some red-hot teams from Orange and Willoughby South. Orange won with 167 and a tiebreaker over South (167), while Aurora shot 169.

"We played pretty well, but the teams we faced did very well, too," pointed out the coach.

Avalon carded a 38 to pace Aurora. He is averaging 43.2 on the season, as is Thorn. "I'm hoping to see everyone's best all at once," said the coach.

Thomas Priore led South with an even-par 36, while Reese Thaler and Adam Marcus each had 39s for Orange.

Thorn and Snyder carded 43s, Robinson 45, Spencer Harris 52 and Jonathan Kokinchak 56.

Aurora hosts its seventh annual invitational Sept. 25 at Barrington. After a match-play event against Shaker Heights on Sept. 20, Aurora plays at Orange today (Sept. 21) and hosts Tallmadge on Sept. 22.
