Former Aurora High School star Jake McVay (5-11, 198), a redshirt junior on the Kent State football team who was competing for the starting job at apache (hybrid linebacker/safety), is out indefinitely after suffering a knee injury last week.
Injuries have repeatedly derailed McVay's bids at seeing extended action for the Flashes, as he's played just two games since joining the program in 2013.
“It's every year with him (with injuries),” said Haynes. “But it's a part of the game, something that you've got to take in stride. The guys that are injured, the No. 1 thing I talk to them about is their attitude. They're still part of the team, their role just changed.
"Everyone has a role and you've got to accept your role. So when the frustration of getting injured is over, you've got to lock into how you can help this team.”
