The Aurora Athletics 12U travel baseball team was crowned the overall playoff champion in the Buckeye Baseball League, making the finals for the fourth straight year.
The Athletics competed this year in the strongest division or the league, where 29 teams from northern Ohio chased a title.
The team's final record was 35-7. It was champion at the Bay Village Firecracker tournament and runnerup at the Little Heroes tournament.
In mid-July, the team traveled to Cooperstown, N.Y. to compete against 103 other teams from the U.S. and Canada. It posted a 6-2 record and was ranked 17th after pool play and finished in the top 32.
The Athletics were one win away from cracking into the Sweet 16, losing a close game to an Alabama squad.
Coach Chris Gerbrick wishes to thank all of the families and sponsors for helping a great group of boys better themselves. "Everyone's efforts were instrumental in the team's accomplishments," he said.
Other coaches were Dean Dolata, Mark Miley, Steve Rhoden and Mike Lewandowski.
Players were Zeb Smith, Chase Gerbrick, Derek Blum, Brenden Corrigan, Tevor Moss, Kepler Rhoden, Ryan Weber, Nolan Miley, Anthony Dolata, Mitchell Copley, Alex Ventimiglia and Max Trem.
