SENIORS ACTIVITIES
Aurora Seniors meet weekdays in the Walker Building.
Programs include “lunch and learn” topics, wellness checks, breakfast and lunch outings, speakers, theme parties, arthritis exercise, health screenings and card games.
Among activities are: Gentle yoga Fridays at 10 a.m., Arthritis Foundation exercise Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 p.m., bingo Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., chair volleyball Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m.; watercolor painting Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m., knitting Thursdays at 1 p.m. and penny poker / euchre Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m.
Also, walking videos Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m., beginning Tai Chi on Thursdays at 9 a.m., podiatrist visits and canasta Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 10 a.m.
Mahjong lessons are Wednesdays at 1 p.m. for beginners and those needing refresher sessions. Once proficient, players can join in for games Fridays at 1 p.m.
Some other activities are blood pressure clinics the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. and glucose screenings the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. Seniors golf takes place Thursdays through October at about 9 a.m. at Raccoon Hill or Oak Knolls golf courses. Register at 330-995-9148.
Massage with Susan Lund will be offered Aug. 8 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while manicures and pedicures will be offered Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A day of big bands will be Aug. 17. The Retired Old Men Eating Out group will visit the Rusty Bucket in Solon on Aug. 18.
An AARP driver safety program for seniors will take place Aug. 22 at noon with instructor Don Unger. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members, payable by check or cash the day of the class.
Trips coming up are: Aug. 4 — “Steel Magnolias” at State Theater; Aug. 10 — Nautica Queen oldies luncheon cruise and Westside Market; Aug. 15 — lunch bunch to Heinen’s in Cleveland; Aug. 17 — Cleveland Indians vs. Chicago White Sox; Aug. 19 — Meadows Casino.
Aug. 23 — Federal Reserve building, Severance Hall and Gray’s Armory tour in Cleveland; Aug. 24 — Botanical Gardens tour; Aug. 25 — Palace Theater to see “Kinky Boots”; Aug. 29 — Warther’s ship museum and Amish country shopping.
The parks-rec department is in the Walker Building on West Pioneer Trail. Hours are weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
