Camp tops Trivisonno
in senior PGA playoff
Two Aurora professional golfers went down to the wire last week in the Northern Ohio PGA's Senior Championship at Club Walden.
Mitch Camp, the head pro at Club Walden ended up defeating Auroran Gary Trivisonno, a teaching pro at Windmill Golf Center in Macedonia, in a two-hole, sudden death playoff.
The two tied at even-par 144 after 36 holes. After a see-saw second round, both parred the first playoff hole, then on the second, par 3 playoff hole, Camp notched a birdie and Trivisonno had a par.
Trivisonno has won the tournament four times. He and Camp both qualified for the National Senior PGA Championship, along with two other northern Ohio golfers.
Camp pocketed $1,200 in prize money, while Trivisonno earned $900. Auroran Gus Mehallis tied for eighth place at 153 and earned $33.
The natioinal tournament will be Nov. 13-16 in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Festival runners excel
Several Aurora residents competed in the annual Twins Days 5K run in Twinsburg on Aug. 3. David Petrak was the overall male finisher in 15:44. Here are other results:

Distance runs slated
The Fox 8 Fox Trot 5K and 1-mile run will be Aug. 24 at Voinovich Park along Lake Erie in Cleveland. Meanwhile, three runs are slated Aug. 23 -- Free to Be at Edgewater Park in Cleveland, the Bulldog Run at St. Bernadette Church in Westlake and the UH Parma Medical Center 5K in Parma. State hoops tourneys
Ohio high school regional and state basketball tournaments earlier this year attracted more people and managed decent profits, according to information given out at last week's monthly Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors meeting.
The boys basketball tourneys attracted 116,100 fans, up from 115,343 in 2013 and resulted in a net profit of $917,082. The girls hoops tourneys drew 37,282 fans, up from 35,954 in 2013, and resulted in a net profit of $12,747.
Meanwhile, the individual state wrestling tournament drew 47,318 fans, down from 49,256, but managed a profit of $174,136, while the team wrestling tourney drew 1,851 fans, up from 1,750 in 2013, and when combined with the regional dual team tourney, resulted in a loss of $45,094.
The state ice hockey tournament drew 3,879 fans, down from 4,466 in 2013, and resulted in a loss of $20,049.
Miller wins golf title
urora's Fred Miller won the Ohio Senior Amateur Championship at Congress Lake Country Club in Hartville by carding a 71-772-143. He was two strokes ahead of his nearest opponent.
Other Aurorans in the event were: Jim Harless, 25th at 155; Larry Lahnan, 32nd at 158; and Rick Areddy, 36th at 159. In the Super Seniors division, Auroran Ed Taber tied for fifth at 159.
Youth football starts
The Western Reserve Youth Football League season gets under way Aug. 24. Here is the schedule for Aurora teams for the first week:
Aug. 23 — Hudson Black at Aurora Gold varsity at 11:30 a.m. and Aurora Green varsity at Hudson Blue at 4 p.m.;Aug. 24 — Hudson Black at Aurora Gold varsity at 11:30 a.m., Hudson Silver at Aurora White varsity at 1 p.m.and Hudson Silver at Aurora Gold JVs at 2:30 p.m.
ABL tryouts planned
Parents and youngsters are reminded that Aurora Baseball League travel and tournament tryouts for 9U to 14U will be Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at Sunny Lake
