Aurora's 10U Greenmen baseball team, sponsored by Window Nation, began practicing twice a week indoors from January to mid-April, and all the hard work paid off with a fine season.
The squad posted a 33-9-1 record, including winning the Solon / Olentangy Invitational, 62nd annual Euclid tournament, Jefferson Classic and the Aurora tournament for the second year. It also claimed runnerup honors in the 26-team Northeast Ohio Buckeye Travel League.
To finish off the season, the boys traveled to Buffalo, N.Y. for the three-day New Era Cap Classic, facing all New York teams, but losing in the semifinals 8-7 to the eventual tournament champion.
According to the team's coaches, every player contributed and when one player is down, another picks him up.
"Not only do the players learn baseball, but more importantly they learn life lessons such as team work, responsibility, hard work, respect, dedication, hustle, having a positive attitude and good sportsmanship," said coach Chris Gerbrick. "The goal is to mold young men while teaching a little baseball."
Team members were Zeb Smith, Nic Willingham, Chase Gerbrick, Jack Cardaman, Mitchell Copley, Ryan Weber, Kepler Rhoden, Max Trem, Anthony Dolata, Alex Ventimiglia, Derek Blum and Nolan Miley.
Other coaches were Dean Dolata, Ken Cardaman, Mark Miley, Steve Rhoden and Bruce Willingham.
