No district qualifiers in boys tennis

Aurora -- Winning in postseason tennis isn't easy, so the Aurora boys squad having four athletes reach the quarterfinals in Division I action says a lot.

The Greenmen, coached by six-year veteran Dania Banc, competed this spring in the 21-team Solon sectional tournament after competing two years in Medina.

"We had a good run at the sectional with four guys making it to the quarterfinals, but all losing in their matches," said Banc of her players trying to reach the qualifying round.

Senior Misha Shatokhin was seeded fourth in singles action. "He was our best chance of getting out since he was seeded fourth, but lost to a very good freshman from Solon (Vlad Rotnov) by 6-2, 6-2," said Banc.

Scott Adsit, a senior, lost his quarterfinal match 6-0, 6-1 to No. 3 seed Auston Barr from Kenston. Barr, the third seed, ended up taking first place.

The senior doubles team of Ben Sender and Michael Kuryshev came close, losing 6-4, 6-4 to the fourth-seeded duo from Solon. "Our doubles team came so close, but lost to a tough Solon team," said the mentor.

The Greenmen's other senior, veteran David Allen, lost in his second round match to the top seed.

Aurora finished the season 14-2 overall.
