AHS grads contribute

for KSU in scrimmage

Aurora High graduate Anthony Melchiori kicked field goals of 40 and 37 yards, while AHS graduate Jake McVay intercepted a pass in Kent State University's spring jersey scrimmage April 19.

"There were a lot of good things and a lot of things we have to work on," said head coach Paul Haynes. "I liked the enthusiasm on defense. They made a lot of plays. When you talk about [creating] turnovers, those were the things we didn't do very well last year. At least we got some today. On the flip side of that, we can't turn the ball over [on offense]."

KSU's spring game will be April 26 at 1 p.m. at Dix Stadium. The event is free and open to the public. "We'll finish out spring ball this week then play the spring game," said Haynes. "After that we'll tell the guys where they are at that point."

Trivisonno takes 36th

Aurora's Gary Trivisonno tied for 36th place with rounds of 72-72 to make the cut, and then rounds of 75-74 for a 292 total in the Senior PGA Championship last week.The event was at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Hradisky wins the 800

Brooke Hradisky, an Aurora High graduate, won the 800 run in 2:20:34 in Baldwin-Wallace University's Sparky Adams Invitational on April 19. The Yellow Jackets will host the Ohio Athletic Conference championships April 25-26.

Distance runs slated

A handful of distance runs are coming up this weekend in Northeast Ohio. The Cleveland 10-miler will be April 26 at 8:30 a.m. at Edgewater Park.

April 27 events include the Love A Stray Fur Fun 5K at Avon Lake High School, the Healthy Solon 5K at Solon Community Center and the Race for Brunswick Blue Pride 5K at Brunswick High School.

Baker 8th in high jump

The All-Ohio Track and Field Championships took place recently at the University of Cincinnati, and Aurora High School graduate Jessica Baker took eighth place in the women's high jump at 5-foot-3 3/4. Baker is a sophore at the Oxford school.

ABL ready for season

The Aurora Baseball League board of directors will meet May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Howard Hanna community room. Opening day for the youth league is May 5.
