The spring sports season is scheduled to start soon, but whether games will be played in the next week or so is a question mark. This week is spring break for Aurora and some other surrounding school districts.
Aurora High School’s baseball teams had a couple of scrimmages scheduled for earlier this week, but the probability of them being played was not good.
Most fields in the area are very wet, snow was predicted on March 25 and daytime temperatures this week were forecast to be only in the 30s and perhaps low 40s, except for March 28, when the mercury could hit 50.
The Greenmen varsity is scheduled to open the regular season March 29 by playing two games at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware against Lexington and Big Walnut high schools.
The boys tennis team is scheduled to host Painesville Harvey on April 1 in the season opening match, while other regular season baseball games are slated for April 1 and 2.
The JV and varsity softball teams are scheduled to open regular season play on April 3 at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin.
The boys and girls track teams could open the season on schedule since they aren’t slated to begin action until April 5 at the Crestwood Invitational in Mantua.
Other varsity tennis and baseball games are slated for April 4 and 5, while the second JV and varsity softball game is not scheduled until April 10.
The AHS varsity baseball team is looking to continue its success from last year when it advanced to the Division I state semifinals.
All of the teams have been working out for the past couple of weeks, and players are eager to get play under way.
