Hudson — Two Aurora residents who swam this winter for the Western Reserve Academy swim team earned postseason awards from head coach Katie Monroe, who is also an Aurora resident and previously coached the Greenmen swimmers.
Jaret Skonieczny was named most improved athlete and Daniel Mylott received the coaches-spirit award for the WRA boys team. Both are freshmen from Aurora. Senior Jonathan Depew was the most valuable athlete.
The girls team started the year with a big win over Aurora, while the boys earned their signature win of the season in January against Kiski School.
The season came to a close as eight swimmers and two divers traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the 114th annual Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships on the campus of La Salle University.
The girls were led by most valuable athlete Elizabeth Downing, most improved athlete Maya Gallegos  and coaches-spirit Award recipient Katie Chlysta. On the diving team, Anne Carter was named most valuable and Meredith McCuskey received the most improved award.
With her first season in the books, Monroe is looking forward to next year. Depew and Lisie Andersson of Hudson will continue their swimming careers at the collegiate level next year at Bates College and New York University, respectively.
