Honsaker qualifies for state diving meet; no Aurora swimmers advance

Cleveland -- Aurora High School junior diver Nolan Honsaker will compete in the state meet this weekend at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. No Aurora swimmers advanced from the Division I or II meet at Cleveland State University.

In the Division II boys diving competition, Honsaker finished in fourth place with 320.85 points behind Noah Sterling of University School (468.1), Austin Penler of Chagrin Falls (430.25) and Peter Nachtwey of Chagrin Falls (386.6).

Meanwhile, AHS diver David Puzder placed 15th.

At the Division II meet, the Greenmen boys placed 18th out of 45 teams which scored points. The 400 freestyle relay team placed 13th in 3:34.97 and the 200 freestyle relay team placed 15th in 1:36.56.

Members of both teams were senior Anthony Nedelka, sophomore Brock Nelson and seniors Nate Branscom and Brian Wessels.

In individual events, Wessels placed 20th in the 50 freestyle in 23.61, Nelson was 23rd in the 200 individual medley in 2:14.56 and 29th in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.89, Nedelka placed 24th in the 200 free in 1:56.24 and sophomore Josh Friedler was 30th in the 500 freestyle in 5:38.59.

The only female to compete at the Division I district swim meet was sophomore Alyssa Mahle, who placed 35th in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.08, but did not manage to earn any points for Aurora.
