Hockey unit falls to 0-12
The Greenmen ice hockey team fell to 0-12 over the weekend with a 10-0 loss to Blue East Division-leading West Geauga.
Goaltender Matt Taft made 34 saves and Kevin Hutchison made 7 more saves as the Wolverines, undefeated in the Blue East Division, scored five times in the first period and put 51 total shots on the Greenmen net.
Aurora plays two games this week at The Pond.On Jan. 11, the Twinsburg Tigers are in for a 5:20 p.m. faceoff and Jan. 12’s foe is Notre Dame Cathedral Latin at 5:45 p.m. The latter date is Aurora Youth Night, which features a free open skate for all students with the team after the game.
Soccer referees are eyed
The Akron Soccer Referees Association will offer new referee clinics in January, February and March. For more information, call Rick at 330-928-5880 or Jim at 330-633-6850. Those who complete one of the clinics will be eligible to work the spring 2014 season, which begins in April.
Volley, hoops leagues set
The city’s parks and recreation department’s winter coed volleyball league will be in action on Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m. from Feb. 12 to April 9.
Matches are played at Harmon School. The league is for participants out of high school and at least 18 years of age. Team managers are required to complete a roster form to be submitted at the manager’s meeting.
Registration deadline is Jan. 24 and cost is $200 per team. Matches are not played when Aurora schools are off or cancelled.
Registration is continuing for men’s basketball, which runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 10 p.m. from Feb. 11 to March 20 at Harmon School.Cost is $50 for residents and $70 for non-residents.
KSU men start MAC play,
women fall to East Mich.
Kent State University’s men’s basketball team (9-4 overall) will open Mid-American Conference play tonight (Jan. 8) at 7 against Ohio University and will host Ball State on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, in MAC opening women’s action, KSU (3-10) fell to Eastern Michigan 88-70 on Jan. 4.
Krista White led KSU with 17 points, while Larissa Lurken added 15, CiCi Shannon 12 and Montia Johnson 11.
The women host Bowling Green on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. and travel to Ball State on Jan. 12 at 2 p.m.
