Aurora -- With only two seniors on the 2013-14 team and the departure of six seniors from last year's team, the Aurora varsity girls basketball team continues to rebuild.
The Lady Greenmen played well at times in a Dec. 21 clash at Cuyahoga Heights, but the Redskins prevailed 47-32 to move to 8-0 overall.
Aurora slipped to 1-8 overall as senior Hanna Garnek guard led with 11 points. Through the first three quarters, Aurora managed only 15 points before exploding for 17 in the final period.
Jenna Stegmaier led Cuyahoga Heights with 13 points. Freshman forward Syarra Sellers netted 7 as she continues to make strides.
Sophomore Maria Mims and freshman April Davis each had 4 points, Joyelle Owens added 3, Logan Huffman 2 and Korie Hobbs added a free throw.
Final results of the Dec. 23 non-league tilt at South Range High School were unavailable at press time.
On Dec. 16, Aurora fell 55-36 to Copley (4-5) as the Indians used a critical third quarter stretch to build their lead, outscoring the Greenmen 24-6.
Garnek 10 led the way with 10 points for Erika Greenberg's club. Mims also played well as she had 8 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
Hobbs popped in 6 points, Davis 5 and senior Kali Bachman 2. Copley was led by Kaela Drake with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Kiley Blachaniec added 11 points.
Aurora will play Dec. 30 at Ravenna and returns to Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division action Jan. 4 at home against Hawken. Aurora is 1-2 in the Chagrin Division.
