Local teams eye titles
Two Aurora youth football teams will play for division championships this weekend.
Aurora Green will meet Kenton Blue on Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. in Solon for the varsity gray division title. Aurora Green edged Kenston White 14-13 in the semifinals to advance.
The Aurora Green JV squad will play the Chesterland Lions on Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. in Solon for the JV scarlet division crown. Aurora Green topped Hudson Silver 24-19 to advance.
In earlier playoff games, Aurora Green varsity beat Aurora White 22-6, Aurora Gold varsity lost to Kenston White 27-6, Aurora Green JVs beat Aurora White 13-0 and Aurora Gold JVs lost to Hudson Black 21-0.
Raptors 10U softball
squad claims crown
The Aurora Raptors 10U team won the 2013 Stow YES fastpitch softball fall A league championship with a 12-0 record. The players concluded their season with exhibition games at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
Members of the team were Brianna Wildroudt, Charlotte Bartlett, Katelyn Musgrave, Alice Hesmondhalgh, Kinze McWhorter, Abby Kimes, Lauren Callahan, Katie Houlahan, Olivia Senger, Audrey Davis, Julia Gersey, Elizabeth Miller, Ashley Ruehr, Alexis Jackman, Grace Caffoe, Coco Jackman, Ava Ryncarz, Kendyl Trem and Brooke Dubensky.
Coaches were Bob Davis, Mike Callahan, Jeff Houlahan and Doug Caffoe.
Miles Burdick in 5K
Miles Burdick of Aurora placed fourth in the men 15-19 division in the recent Monster Mutt Dash. His time was 28:59.5.
Distance runs slated
More distance runs are coming up this weekend, including the Halloween Run for Justice at the Galleria in Cleveland and the Brecksville Trick or Trot in the Brecksville Reservation on Oct. 26. Runs on Oct. 27 are the Great Pumpkin Run at Lakewood Park and the Skeleton 5K Run for Your Bones at Amherst Steele High School. For details, visit www.hermescleveland.com. State track and field
meet grosses $20,368
At the October meeting of the Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors, the financial report from the 2013 regional and state track and field tournaments was presented.
Total attendance from the 12 regional tounaments and two-day state meet was 58,835 (27,537 at the state meet). The net profit was $20,368. OHSAA spent $35,359 on trophies and medals, $55,852 on personnel and $20,860 on the 92-page program.
The regional and state basketball tournament draw was tabled until December because of a lack of complete district tournament sites being availzable.
In the Northeast District, Wadsworth Middle School Assistant Principal Rich Berlin was appointed as the middle school representative, while Andy Jalwan, athletic administrator at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, was appointed as the Class AA representative.
Blackley scores goal
Kevin Blackley, an Aurora High School graduate, scored Mount Union’s final goal in a 3-1 victory Oct. 19 over Capital in Ohio Athletic conference action. The win raised Mount’s overall record to 8-7 and conference mark to 3-2. Blackley received a pass from a teammate for the goal in the 69th minute.
