Aurora -- The Greenmen varsity girls soccer team managed a 2-2 tie with Hawken on Sept. 7 to make their record 5-1-1 The squad was scheduled to host Kent Roosevelt on Sept. 9.
No information was available about the Hawken match, and the Kent Roosevelt match took place after the Advocate's news deadline for this week.
The girls do not play another match this week. Their next action is Sept. 16 16 at home against Parma Padua, thThen they will host West Geauga on Sept. 19 and travel to Lake Cathoilic on Sept. 21.
Meanwhile, the Aurora High boys soccer team raised its record to 4-1 with a 3-2 non-league victory on Sept. 5 over visiting Brecksville-Broadview Heights.
Tallying goals for the Greenmen were senior Connor Burns and juniors Anthony Brockway and Nick Perez. Brockway scored the game winner on a header off of a feed from senior Prayag Jina, who also assisted on the goal by Burns.
The Greenmen moved to 2-0 in the Chagrin Valley Conference with a 3-0 win Sept. 3 at Orange. Final results of the Sept. 10 home match against Chagrin Falls were not available as of this writing.
Against Orange, the Greenmen netted three second-half goals on the grass surface while talented senior goalkeeper Justin Pavlick earned the shutout. Pavlick was credited with four saves.
Perez had two goals and senior Dalton Browsky scored a goal off of a deflection. Brockway and sophomore Cory Bianco had five and four steals, respectively.
Senior Trever Wendel was active with five shots on goal. Wendel had eight steals against Brecksville (2-1-1).
Other key seniors for Aurora this fall are Ryan Studer, Ben Lazor, Matt Meyer, Kyle Sutton, and Scott Sutton.
Aurora hosts Mentor on Sept. 14 (7 p.m.) before visiting Gates Mills Hawken on Sept. 17 (4:30 p.m.) and Solon on Sept. 21 (2 p.m.).
The Greenmen host Chesterland West Geauga on Sept. 24 (7 p.m.) in CVC action.
