Aurora -- Anytime you defeat a soccer team that reached the state finals the year before, that is a feather in your cap.
Aurora's boys hope to collect quite a few victories this fall after reaching the Division I final four.
A hard-fought 3-0 win by Aurora over defending Division II state runnerup Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy certainly was a big one to obtain.
Head coach Chris Gentille saw his defense control the game against another stellar defensive squad in the Royals (2-1). Gentille was not available for comment.
The Aug. 29 win at Aurora's Veterans Stadium was another classic matchup in an early season that has had a couple already for the Greenmen (2-1).
Aurora fell 3-2 in the season opener against perennial power Lakewood St. Edward, which was the team that Aurora knocked off in the 2012 postseason with a 1-0 regional championship victory.
But in the matchup against CVCA, senior goalkeeper Justin Pavlick earned the shutout and had two saves, but this was a team shutout as the Greenmen continue to play well as a group. Aurora had a 7-2 shots-on-goal advantage.
Nick Perez, Trever Wendel and Dalton Browsky each scored goals for Aurora. Browsky also was credited with an assist.
Pavlick, who had a school record 13 shutouts in 2012, earned another on Aug. 27 with a 6-0 victory over Wickliffe at home.
Browsky, a senior forward, was outstanding, tallying three goals, while Perez had two and Anthony Brockway added the other one. Brockway added an assist while Wendel contributed three tackles (steals), two assists, and one shot attempt.
The Greenmen were scheduled to play at Kent Roosevelt on Aug. 31, but no results were available from that game.
The Greenmen were to travel to Lewis Black Stadium to face Orange in a Chagrin Valley Conference test Sept. 3 before hosting powerful Brecksville-Broadview Heights on Sept. 5. AHS also hosts CVC rival Chagrin Falls on Sept. 10. All games begin at 7 p.m.
