Aurora -- Team balance continues to allow the Aurora High golf team to capture wins.
Head coach Gus Mehallis is thrilled with his team's play as the Greenmen remain undefeated in the Chagrin Valley Conference.
Aurora bested West Geauga 150-172 on Aug. 29 at Fowlers Mill. Aurora is 4-0 in the CVC.
Despite having a triple bogey on the second hole, Chris Sloe fired a 36 to lead everyone at Fowler's Mill.
Conor O'Callaghan turned in a strong round of 37 for Aurora with support from Sam Nowak (38) and 39s by Tommy Riedy, Alex Avalon and Jack Brubaker. Low score for the Wolverines was Matt Forrai with a 39.
With a 157-171 win over Orange at Barrington Country Club in Aurora on Aug. 27, the locals won again in CVC play. Independence was added to the match as a non-league entry and had a 193.
"We are leading the conference because we also won the preseason tournament at Pine Hills earlier this month," pointed out Mehallis. "I think we are now the favorite to win the conference."
This time it was O'Callaghan who stepped up and tied Avalon for scoring honors with a 39 to lead the home team and continue the undefeated season. Sloe and Riedy each added 40s to help Aurora. Nowak carded a 42 and Parker Barnes had a 44.
Aurora was to play Sept. 3 against Beachwood at Walden and will take on Perry on Sept. 5 at Madison Country Club, followed by a non-league test Sept. 7 against Walsh Jesuit (8 a.m.) at Brookledge Country Club in Cuyahoga Falls.
