The Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced that 714 high schools are fielding varsity football teams this year, out of the association’s 821 member schools.
Those schools are aiming to be among the 224 playoff qualifiers when the final computer ratings are announced on Nov. 3.
The OHSAA’s football postseason field has expanded to seven divisions after having six divisions from 1994 to 2012.

During the 2013 playoffs, Divisions II, III (Aurora is in this division), IV and VI will play on Friday nights, while Divisions I, V and VII will play on Saturdasy nights.
One of the Friday night divisions will play its state chsampionship game on Dec. 5 (a Thursday) while the others will play on Dec. 6 and the Saturday night divisions will play Dec. 7.
The state finals will be at Canton’s Fawcett Stadium and Massillon’s Paul Brown Tiger Stadium this fall before moving to Ohio State Buckeyes Stadium in Columbus for 2014 and 2015.
