Several swimmers post personal bests as AHS takes 6th in CVC meet

Aurora -- Hawken proved way too tough for other competitors in the Chagrin Valley conference swimming meet, piling up twice the points as Chagrin Falls to win the championship Jan. 19.

Aurora garnered 169 total points to finish sixth overall, with the boys coming in sixth with 101 and the girls coming in seventh with 68.

"We had some great swims," said AHS coach Katie Monroe.

Austin Hayes and Broc Miller each came within a second of setting school records in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, respectively.

Personal records were recorded by Alexandra Hayes, Hannah Brezovec, Cameron Golston, Austin Hayes, Broc Miller, Brock Nelson, Jake Glockner, Brian Wessels, Ben Sender, Ricky Vincik, Josh Friedler, Brandon Hayes, Nate Branscom, Henry Young, Alyssa Mahle, Alix Kokinchak, Kelsey Kalinowski and Jessica Ramsey.

"Many of these individuals had personal bests not only in one event, but in multiple events at the meet," said Monroe.

"We look forward to our last two dual meets of the season," she added.

The Greenmen were to take on West Geauga on Jan. 22 and will complete the regular Jan. 25 against Twinsburg.

So far the boys team stands 6-2 in duals and the girls are 5-3.

A. Hayes finshed third in the 200 free in 1:52.03 and Miller was third in the 200 individual medley in 2:07.08 for Aurora's top individual finishes. The boys 400 free relay of Miller, Anthony Nedelka, B. Hayes and A. Hayes also was third in 3:37.38.

Fourth was Miller in the 100 butterfly, while fifth was the girls 400 free relay of Brezovec, Alyssa Mahle, Hayes and Kokinchak and sixth was the boys 200 free relay of Miller, both Hayeses and Wessels and Lauren Steele in the 50 free.

Other points earned included the following: seventh -- Natalia Nelson in diving, Steele in 100 butterfly and the girls 200 free relay of Steele, Kokinchak, Hannah Haughey and Brezovec.

Eighth -- A. Hayes in the 100 free; ninth -- boys 200 medley relay of Friedler, Nelson, Nedelka and Wessels; 10th -- Brezovec in 100 free, Taylor Mahle in 500 free and Kelly Fussner in 100 breaststroke.

Eleventh -- Hayes in girls 200 free; Nedelka in 200 free, Wessels in 50 free and Hayes in girls 100 free; 12th -- Nelson in 200 individual medley, Kokinchak in 500 free and B. Hayes in 100 backstroke.
