Aurora -- One more game remains before the year 2012 closes out, and the Aurora High School varsity girls basketball could head into the new year undefeated if it defeats Ravenna Dec. 29.
The Greenmen headed into this week with a 7-0 overall record after an exciting 41-37 overtime victory over Cuyahoga Heights on Dec. 21. That followed wins against Western Reserve Academy 52-39 and Orange 56-13.
The Greenmen are 3-0 in the Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division.
"The Cuyahoga Heights win was a very hard-fought game," said coach Erika Schultz. "We were up by 3 as the regulation clock wound down, but a Heights girl hit a three at the buzzer to force it into overtime.
"Allison Howard scored all four of our points in overtime to lead us to victory."
Howard finished with 8 points, while Camilla Brown led the way with 14 and Alexa DeBord had 8 and Erin McNamara added 6.
Against Western Reserve Academy, Brown had a season-high 25 points, while Howard added 17.
Against Orange, Brown had 13 points, Howard 12, Maddie Gilley 10 and Danielle Lasky 7.
The Dec. 29 game against Ravenna is at home, with junior varsity action starting at 5 p.m. and varsity following at 6:30.
The first two games of 2013 will be important ones, as the Greenmen take on CVC Chagrin Division title contenders Kenston on Jan. 4 and Chagrin Falls on Jan. 9, both on the road.
