The Greenmen hockey team lost two games over the weekend. The losses dropped the team's record to 1-3 in the Blue East Division and 1-6-1 overall.

A loss to division rival Cleveland Heights was a bitter one, as Aurora led 2-1 heading into the third period after goals by Mike Ambrose and Canton McElwee. The Tigers dominated play in the third and scored twice to win 3-2.

Goaltender Rachael Schwartz stopped 29 shots, while the locals managed only two shots in the third stanza. Ambrose scored his team-leading sixth goal late in the first period assisted by Nathaniel Schwartz.

Heights tied the game 20 seconds into the second period, then McElwee notched his first goal of the season racing down the left wing and backhanding a shot from near the goal line, with assists by Ambrose and Brandt Vermillion.

"It was a tough loss, especially when you're leading in the third period in your own building," said coach John Sheridan. "The positive is that we can see improvement each game, but with such a short roster we really wore out late in the game, but I thought we gave a great effort."

When Avon visited the Pond the next night, the Eagles scored twice in the first, the second with only 10 seconds left, and two early second period goals a minute apart put the game out of reach.

Last season's leading scorer Colin MacDonald saw his first action of the season and responded by getting Aurora's lone tally from Ambrose and Vermillion midway through the middle frame.

Avon got the only goal in the final period on the power play for the 5-1 victory.

This weekend, the squad travels to Cleveland Heights for a 3 p.m. Dec. 15 contest against Benedictine. On Dec. 16, the locals open the Chagrin Valley Conference tournament with an 11:20 a.m. faceoff against Kenston at the Pond.
