Aurora -- Unseeded Brian Evans battled his way to a 145-pound championship at the Matteucci Invitational at Eastlake North over the weekend, as the Greenmen managed a sixth-place team finish.
He posted three pins to get into the finals, where he recorded three takedowns and went on to a 7-5 win. His season record is 9-2.
Meanwhile, Angus Nietert managed a second-place finish at 170 after notching two pins -- one in 22 seconds -- and an 11-5 decision before a loss in the finals. It was his first competition of the season and the highest varsity finish in his career.
The Greenmen had two third-place finishers -- sophomore Brian McNamara at 182 and freshman Josh Burger at 285.
McNamara had two pins and a 15-1 major decision, and Burger pinned three opponents in the first period and won two decisions.
