Four CVC grid units join Aurora in regional semis



Along with Aurora, four other Chagrin Valley Conference teams have moved on to the second round of the state football playoffs.

The two which lost in the first round were Hawken and Fairport Harding.

Kenston (7-4) pulled a 26-23 upset of top-seeded Tallmadge in Division II, and could meet Aurora again if it can defeat Chardon (9-2) and the Greenmen can beat Kent Roosevelt (10-1).

The Kenston-Chardon game will be at Mentor.

Meanwhile, Chagrin Falls (10-1) easily handled Woodridge 60-28 and will play Ravenna (7-4) in Division III at Solon's Stewart Field.

In Division V, Kirtland (11-0) beat Fort Frye 49-7 and will face Columbiana Crestview (11-0) at Warren Harding Stadium, while Cuyahoga Heights (10-1) topped Bellaire 42-14 and will meet Youngstown Ursuline (7-4) at Copley.

Here's the schedule of other second round matchups featuring Northeast Ohio teams:

Division I -- St. Edward (11-0) vs. Mentor (10-1) at Parma Byers Field; St. Ignatius (10-1) vs. North Royalton (10-1) at Lakewood Stadium; Massillon (10-1) vs. Canton McKinley (8-2) at KSU's Dix Stadium; Toledo Whitmer (11-0) vs. Hudson (9-2) at Sandusky High School.

Division II -- Avon (10-1) vs. Tiffin Columbian (11-0) at Fremont Ross.

Division III -- Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (9-2) vs. Hubbard (8-3) at Austintown Fitch.

Division IV -- Brookfield (11-0) vs. Akron Manchester (8-3) at Twinsburg; Creston Norwayne (11-0) vs. Youngstown Liberty (9-2) at Uniontown Lake.

Division V -- Columbia (10-1) vs. Hamler Patrick (9-2) at Fremont Ross.

Division VI -- Mogadore (11-0) vs. Berlin Center Western Reserve (9-2) at Ravenna; Malvern (10-1) vs. Youngstown Christian (8-2) at Akron St. Vicent-St. Mary's Green Street Stadium.

During the first four rounds of the playoffs, Friday night games start at 7:30 and Saturday night contests begin at 7.
