At the club's Sept. 21 meeting at its new home -- the Aurora Inn -- District Gov. Michael Johns presented the club with the A.Z. Baker Award, the 16th year the club has earned it.

The club earned 1,950 service points, which is 293 percent of the goal.

Past District Gov. Cheryl Warren inducted new members Bob and Ann Gerphart and presented an award for outstanding service to Scott Pease for his work with the 4-Way Test speech contest.

Students of the month Ryan Shock and Abby Marks (Aurora High) and Marin Divers and Kyle Arbrecht (Streetsboro) were recognized.

Aurora Chamber of Commerce's Aurora Women in Networking is offering a luncheon and "fashion reboot" today (Oct. 5) at 11:30 a.m. at the Bertram Inn.

The event will feature new and innovative ways to update outdated clothing and accessories to the latest trend. Tips will be given by Chamber member businesses.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine will be the featured speaker at a 3Chamber luncheon (Aurora, Solon and Twinsburg) Oct. 19 at 11:30 a.m. at Signature of Solon.

DeWine has been a state senator and representative, lieutenant governor and U.S. senator.

The attorney general's office advocates for business interests in court, helps protect small business from fraud, scams and unfair practices, and has published a free manual explaining the legal framework for economic development.

Cost to attend is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. A $5 late fee will be applied if seating is available. Pre-paid reservations are required by Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.


The Federated Democratic Women of Portage County has scheduled its annual Jefferson Jackson dinner Oct. 6 at the Ravenna Elks Club, 776 N. Freedom St. The cash bar begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6. The guest speaker is Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni.


The Women's Council of Hiram College will kick of its Encore series Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Twinsburg.

The first program will feature Dr. Richard Klein as guest speaker. He will discuss the history of eight popular former Cleveland department stores.

The Dec. 10 program will feature violinist Mary Beth Ions and the May 6, 2017 program will feature Richard Figge portraying Clarence Darrow.

A subscription to the Encore series costs $115 for all three luncheons-programs. Individual tickets are $40 and can be purchased from the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at Hiram, Box 67, HIram 44234 by Oct. 10.
