AURORA STUDY CLUB
The Jan. 15 meeting of the Aurora Study Club will feature Dick Goddard, the popular chief meteorologist at WJW Fox 8 in Cleveland.
He was born in Akron and graduated from Green High School in southern Summit County in 1949. He joined the United States Air Force and after his discharge he attended Kent State University, where he studied drama and broadcasting.
He started his career in Cleveland in 1961 at KYW Channel 3. After joining WJW in 1966 as a meteorologist, he also took a job as the Cleveland Browns official statistician for home games, which he did for more than 40 years.
He has received several awards for his work and was twice named by the Herb Altman Research Co. as the most popular local television weather person in America.
Goddard hosted “Bowling for Dollars” and was often seen in skits preformed on the “Big Chuck and Lil’ John Show.” He is also known for his concern for the care of animals.
The meeting will start at 1 p.m. in the Church in Aurora’s fellowship hall. Guests are welcome to attend and refreshments will be served after the program.
In February, Felicia Zavarella Stadelman will present “Through the Eyes of the
