THE AURORA COOKS GROUP
“I have a need for fried cheese!” was one of the recipe hits of the last Aurora Cooks! meeting on July 30. The group delved into the world of fried, fatty food as members explored the virile, testosterone charged world of Guy Fieri.
A judge on the “Iron Chef,” host of a popular game show, restaurant owner and author of “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives,” “More Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” and “Guy Fieri Food: Livin’ It, Lovin’It,” he is the man’s man of culinary genius.
Jen Latine brought the fried cheese. As the recipe states, she used egg-roll wrappers, salami, string cheese and panko breadcrumbs. She rolled them all together dipped them in oil and made one amazing and shall we say “rich” dish. The cooks chatted about the versatility of the recipe and Jen said “she grew”as a cook.
Tracy Quiggle made a golden pound cake that had a citrusy zest that came to life as they tasted the desert. The recipe called for a cranberry glaze, but Tracy went into her back yard and picked fresh blackberries that intermingled with the cake seasonally perfect.
Jan Morgan made Guy’s black bean and corn salad. It was especially tasty because she did not include the usual cilantro but added Italian parsley. It really complemented the corn nicely.
The Aurora Cooks! is a program sponsored by Aurora Memorial Library. The group meets the last Tuesday of the month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Anyone who would like to join should call the library at 330-562-6502.
ROTARY CLUB OF AURORA
The Rotary Club of Aurora recently decided to purchase a park bench to be placed at Sunny Lake in memory of past members who have passed away.
The bench will display a plaque with the names of past members, with room to add more names in the future.
The club also talked about the possibility of purchasing a tree for the park in honor of past presidents of the club, but took no action.
Club officers are: Roger Cram, president; Dick Rowely, president-elect; Ronald Echelberry, treasurer; Don Hagwell, secretary; and Jim Pascoe, membership chairman.
