AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY

Local residents can aid American Legion Post 803 by dining at Doogan's anytime on Jan. 10.

Residents must pick up fliers at Aurora Library or VFW Post 2629 and then present them to the server to allow 15 percent of the total bill to be donated to the American Legion.

The offer does not include food ordered with a gift certificate. The Legion sponsors many community activities, supports veterans and promotes patriotism.

AURORA STUDY CLUB

The Jan. 16 meeting of the Aurora Study Club will feature Kathryn Kilpatrick, who will discuss memory fitness.

the speaker received her master's degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Massachusetts. She is a national motivational speaker and president of Memory Fitness Matters and Communication Connection.

Club members and guests will learn how to develop a good brain workout and how to have more productive memory strategies.

The meeting will be at 1 p.m. in the Church in Aurora's fellowship hall. Guests are welcome and refreshments will be served after the program.

In February, Felicia Zavarella Stadelman will present "Through the Eyes of the Artist," which will feature Vincent Van Gogh.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Jan. 23's luncheon for the Aurora Chamber of Commerce will focus on "The State of the Chamber."

It will be at Doogan's and will answer the following questions: "Did we reach last year's goals?" and "What opportunity do the new year offer to help us further succeed this year?"

On Feb. 20 will be the annual "State of the City" luncheon at the Bertram Inn. City leaders will update members on city issues affecting businesses and organizations.

Reservations for ads and listings in the 2012 All About Aurora Community & Events Guide are due Jan. 18. Call the Chamber if you have questions about the guide.

The fourth annual Portage County Industrial Roundtable will focus on "Finding and Hiring Quality Employees." It will be Feb. 26 at 7:30 a.m.. at Maplewood Career Center.

Speakers will be Kelly Jurisch, human resource manager of PARTA; Harry Walker, vice president of Cornwell Quality Tools Co.; Marilyn Sessions, human resource and training officer for Hometown Bank; Helen Tauscher, human resource manager for Viking Forge; and Liz Zorc, human resource manager for the city of Kent.

The 12 Deals of Christmas Facebook and website promotion was a success. It was created through collaboration of the pro-business and tourism committee of the Aurora Chamber.

Serving on the committee were: Charisse Louis of Charene Creative, Lisa Kusner of Aurora Farms Premium Outlets, Lori Davis of Wildwater Kingdom, B.K. Hall of Aurora Schools Foundation, Amie Cajka of the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County, Jim Kraus and Colleen Martin of the Aurora Parks and Recreation Department and Barbara Baxter of Cedar Brook Financial Partners.

The following businesses contributed to the Christmas party auction and made donations to the scholarship fund in 2012:
