Do you have a favorite charity? Most people do. Some people don't. Our City Council representatives have a favorite. Soon they will vote whether to give the Volunteers of America $12,000 of ourtax dollars.
They did last year, with the caution that the charity should not count on taxpayer money going forward.
I wonder why our representatives don't trust us to make the decision on which charities we want to support? This charity has received major voluntary donations from residents in the past, but I wonder if this will continue now that we know they get our taxes involuntarily.
Furthermore, I wonder if the Council people think they are doing a good deed by not donating themselves, but instead forcing taxpayers to donate. There is no honor in this action.
I wonder why other charities, like the Aurora One Fund and Boy and Girl Scouts, are not worthy of City Council's forced charity?
