LETTER: Residents try to get parking lot issue on ballot in November

Residents trying to place

Town Center parking lot

issue on November ballot

The decision by

Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin and some City Council reps to pave a ballfield and some green space at Kiwanis-Moore Playground is causing many questions.

Is little Midwest Aurora, Ohio, as broken as Washington? Indeed, a review of the facts shows no reason this proposal could pass so quickly, with no data to support it.

One is left with the sobering realization that our elected officials seem to have acted for special interests, and not in the interests of the people who overwhelmingly spoke against this issue.

In other words, our representatives didn't represent us.

We are reaching a point where a critical mass of people are fed up and feel empowered to do something about it. A petition to put this issue on the Nov. 4 ballot is circulating around town. This will let the voters decide between the green and the parking lot.

Want to have your voice heard? Stop by Starbucks in Aurora on June 26 from 10 a.m. and noon to sign the petition.
