Voters, please pay close attention to the ballot wording for Issue 7, the so-called “safety levy” on the Nov. 5 ballot in Aurora. Upon reading it, you will see that there is no requirement for any money from this tax increase to be spent on hiring any policemen.
In fact, the city recently hired two police officers with the existing budget. This levy wording allows the money to be spent on anything from new carpeting to daffodil bulbs. This is the same wording for the levy that failed in May. It makes you wonder why some people are calling it a safety levy.
