ELIZABETH POSS COLEBROOK
Services were Aug. 20 at the Church in Aurora for Elizabeth Poss Colebrook, 90, who died Aug. 10, 2013.
Born in Aurora in 1923, she married Jack Colebrook in 1944, and they continued to live in Aurora and raise their four children Michael, Susan, Deborah and Kristina.
Mrs. Colebrook started the first nursery school in Aurora when her own kids were toddlers. She went on to help with many programs from the church or bringing inner city kids to Aurora to get a taste of the country.
She and her husband gave birth to the Aurora Community Theater, which operated at the Church in Aurora until the theater was built at the library building. She continued to attend performances each summer.
She earned her master's degree while in her 50s. She founded the Center for Better Living in Aurora. Then in 1991 she and her husband moved to Long Boat Key, Fla.
Mrs. Colebrook enjoyed playing tennis, gardening and traveling overseas. She enjoyed working with people of all ages and spent many years at Kent State University on the "crisis line" in the 1970s. Writing also was one of her passions, and she compiled many of her stories into a book titled "Digging up Grandpa," which was published in 2011.
In addition to her four children, survivors include two of their spouses Peter and Rosie; grandchildren Jessica (Tanner), Max, Laurie, Michael T (Samantha), Christopher (Annie) and Nathan; and great-grandchildren Jacqui, Eve, Annika, Eli, Avelyn and Logan.
