Barn needs to be repaired or torn downJuly 21, 2008
The Mayor has proposed an exterior maintenance code, but the City has not been enforcing the ordinances it has in place for condemned or nuisance buildings. The old barn on East Pioneer Trail collapsed in March or April of this year after the last snow fall into the roadway. While the roadway was cleaned, the partially collapsed building still has not been repaired or torn down. The barn had a metal roof that has collapsed inward and I believe the rest of the barn is in danger to collapse from the weight of the debris. It is my understanding that the City has informed the property owner that the barn needs to be torn down or repaired. However, nothing has been done. The barn is in the same condition it was the day after it collapsed. This barn is a danger to anyone driving or walking on East Pioneer Trail if it collapses further. I drive past the barn at least 2 times a day and will see the property owners standing around and looking at it, but not making any repairs. The City needs to enforce its nuisance laws and condemn this barn as it is a danger. The City should require these property owners to follow the City ordinances and require them to repair the barn or tear it down before it collapses further and causes injuries to passing cars or pedestrians.
