Girl Scouts Cookie Sale Kicks Off January 4, 2008!December 28, 2007
Mark your calendars as the ever-popular Girl Scout cookie sale kicks off Friday, January 4, 2008 and runs through Monday, March 17, 2008. More than 45,000 members of Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio (GSNEO) will be offering eight delicious, melt-in-your-mouth varieties of cookies through this nation's premier entrepreneurial program for girls. The annual cookie sale is part of the Girl Scout Financial Literacy Program where girls learn important skills in the art of developing objectives, project planning and implementation, budgeting and financial responsibility and teamwork, self-confidence and community awareness. GSNEO'S Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Daisy Alford-Smith states, "This program plays an integral role in our being able to sustain activities and provide girls with the wide variety of time-honored Girl Scout programs that emphasize the development of leadership skills designed to contribute to their adult success. Furthermore, cookie revenue helps us provide the financial assistance necessary to make Girl Scouting available to all girls throughout Northeast Ohio." New to the eight varieties of cookies in 2008 are Cinna-Spins, crispy cinnamon snack swirls that are only 100 calories per pack, with five packs to a box and Lemonades, savory slices of shortbread with a refreshingly tangy lemon icing. All eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies are trans-fat free. To assist consumers in making an informed choice, the ingredients and nutritional profile of each cookie variety are listed on each cookie box. Girl Scout cookies are only $3.50 a box. Consumers interested in purchasing cookies can be connected to troops in their area by contacting Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., at 1-888-9-THIN MINT (888-984-4664), or by visiting www.loveGScookies.org. All of the proceeds generated from cookie activities stay in and support Girl Scouting throughout GSNEO's 18 county region in the state of Ohio. For further information on Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio, to register to join Girl Scouts and/or volunteer, call 1-800-852-4474 or visit www.gsneo.org. The Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio was officially formed on October 1, 2007 after a two-year realignment process between five Ohio Girl Scout councils. The five councils that merged to form GSNEO are: Girl Scouts of Lake Erie Council (Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake counties); Girl Scouts of Erie Shores (Erie, Huron, Lorain, Sandusky and Seneca counties); Girl Scouts of Lake to River (Ashtabula, Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties); Girl Scouts " Great Trail Council (Carroll, Stark and Tuscarawas counties) and Girl Scouts of the Western Reserve (Medina, Portage and Summit counties.) Today, GSNEO serves 45,000 girls and 15,000 adult volunteer members. Since its founding in 1912, Girl Scouts has provided close to 50 million girls with time-honored programs that engage them with their communities; enhance self-esteem; increase financial literacy and interest in math, science and technology; encourage good health and nutrition and build leadership skills necessary for them to move confidently into their futures. Today, Girl Scouts is the #1 girl organization in the world, with 3.6 million girl members nation-wide and close to 2 million internationally. -30- Comments
