Aurora -- Three businesses received the go-ahead for new signs at the board of zoning appeals' Nov. 11 meeting.

Gymboree at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets will be allowed to erect two signs with a total area exceeding the maximum allowed size by 10 1/2 square feet.

Ganley Chevrolet will be permitted to erect a monument sign with 31 square feet instead of the maximum allowed 25 square feet and to put up a third wall sign.

Custom Pultrusions on South Chillicothe Road will be able to erect a sign which encroaches 4 feet into the road right of way.

All the variances passed unanimously except for the Gymboree request, as panelist Terese Fennell opposed.

Gymboree will be allowed to hang a 3-by-7 1/2-foot sign on its front facade and a 1-by-3-foot blade sign along its front walkway.

Bryan Tello of Signature Signs said the signs would equal the visual impact of those at adjacent businesses.

Amy Yelling of Ellet Signs said Ganley sought the variances to change the name of the dealership from Serpentini on the wall and monument signs.

She said the monument sign will be 6 square feet larger than the existing one but will be in the same location, while the wall sign will be slightly smaller than the previous one.

City planner Denise Januska explained the changing of a name on a sign requires a city permit to be granted.

Jack Burge of Holsman Sign Services said the new Custom Pultrusions sign will be in the same location as the existing one.

He said moving the sign would be costly because a pole and wiring to the ground lights which illuminate the sign would have to be moved.

In other action, the panel removed from its agenda two variance requests for a fence on the east side of the school district's Willard Road bus garage.

The Board of Education had sought to erect an 8-foot high stockade-type fence, which exceeds the maximum allowed 4 feet.

Chairman Don Arbuckle said the district plans to deal with shielding the garage from adjacent neighbors in another manner.

Arbuckle also announced two variances to allow banners to be erected in parking lots at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets would remain tabled at the applicant's request.

He said the shopping complex plans to submit a new plan at the Dec. 9 session.
