Mantua Historical Society

May 27, 2009

The Mantua Historical Society and the Mantua Center Christian Chruch cordially invite you to attend the dedication of an Ohio Historical Marker on the Mantua Center Green.

The ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 1:00PM on the green at St.Rt 82 and Mantua Center Road ( 1 mile west of St.Rt.44)

Many of the early Mantua settlers were from the New England states and the green is a reflection of the towns and villages the early pioneers left behind.

The area being dedicated is a remembrance of those early meeting places that became a bustling center of local commerce, politics and religion.

The marker is being provided through the generosity of

The Mantua Historical Society
The Mantua Center Christian Church
The Ohio Historical Society

Light refreshments will be provided after the ceremony

It will be an hour long program with a presentation of colors by the American Legion, some patriotic songs by members of a few local church choirs, a few speakers, and a 20 minute talk by re-enactors of President and Lucretia Garfield in costume. The future President Garfield was a minister who preached at the Mantua Center Christian Church 1855-1860. We will also have a stagecoach, surrey, and carriage bringing in the special guests and some people in costume as well.

Everyone is invited!!
