Longtime area resident
Services were slated for May 6 at Green Funeral Home in Mantua for Lucille "Reddy" Stamm, 88, of Mantua, who died May 2 at Kensington Care Center in Aurora.
Born Jan. 27, 1920, in Bainbridge Township, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Rose (Deitz) Hurd. A longtime area resident, she graduated from Kent State University in 1941 with a degree in physical education.
She earned her nickname in her early years because of her red hair. She was a teacher for 20 years, retiring in 1980 from Crestwood schools.
She enjoyed baking pies, flower gardening, dancing and traveling. She and husband Paul, to whom she was married 65 years, visited all 50 states, all Canadian provinces and six continents.
Survivors include her husband; son Hall (Leigh Ann) of Mantua; daughters Barbara (Charles) Wicke of Mesa, Ariz., Janis Stamm of McLean, Pa., Paula (Thomas) Tubalkain of Solon, Lynne Stamm of Aurora, Sara (Jeff) Gardner of Kent and Ellie Stamm of Aurora; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Dorothy Hamilton of Parker, Colo., and Lois Maman of Edgewater, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her sister Pauline Fields.
The Rev.. Jeff Jackson of Hilltop Christian Church officiated at the funeral. Mrs. Stamm was buried at Hillside Cemetery in Mantua. Her seven children were pallbearers.
