Financial seminars for

seniors to start May 13

Financial Networks of America's free financial seminars geared toward seniors kicks off May 13. The topic for the first meeting is "Facts about Long Term Care."

The seminar will be conducted twice, once at the Walker Building at 2 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m. at Aurora Library.

The clinic is a free, educational and informative lecture-type class without the pressure of selling any services. It's strictly a chance to receive information.

Michael Embrescia, who is a partner in the Wealth Management Group of FNA, will lead the meetings. If you plan to attend, respond to Carrie at 330-425-9199.

Other seminars will follow on the second Tuesday of every month through November, with the exception of August.

Anna Maria will mark

Nursing Home Week

Mayor Lynn McGill is scheduled to present a proclamation May 16 at 2 p.m. at Anna Maria of Aurora recognizing National Nursing Home Week, which runs May 11 to 18.

During the celebration, a band will play courtesy of Aurora Farms Premium Outlets and treats will be sponsored by Harry & David's, while a cookout and pie-eating contest also are planned. A midnight meal will be offered from 11 p.m. to midnight.

This year's theme is "Love Is Ageless." The week provides a perfect time for relatives to visit their loved ones at area nursing facilities, or call them or send a card or flowers.

Anna Maria offers a brochure titled "Tips on visiting friends and relatives." It details plans for a visit, visits outside the facility and who should visit. It is available by calling 1-800-628-8140 or visiting www.LongermCareLiving.com.

Dominion's gas rates

to increase 15 percent

Dominion East Ohio's rates for natural gas will rise later this month.

As of May 16, the standard service offer rate, which changes monthly and is charged to customers who do not choose their own natural gas supplier, will go up 15.5 percent, or $1.70, to $12.72 per 1,000 cubic feet.

The March rate was $11.02. The new rate will be $3.772 higher than the rate last May, a 42.2 percent increase.

Domino East Ohio said the average residential customer's bill for May will be up 33 percent, or $19.76, to $79.61 from last May. The rate is determined each month based on the New York Mercantile Exchange month-end settlement rate, plus an additional $1.44 per mcf.

The rate is a base for natural gas and does not include a transportation cost that all customers, regardless of their supplier, continue to pay. Customers locked into a rate with a separate supplier are not affected by the hike.
