Police News: Citations are issued for failure to yield to squad

Aurora -- Not pulling over for an emergency vehicle resulted in two traffic citations being issued April 20 to a Bainbridge Township man.

At 9:25 p.m., police said the man went left of center on Route 43 through the center of town, passing several vehicles which had pulled over for the medical squad.

Officers said the man increased his speed to stay ahead of the squad, then was passed by the squad when he stopped at a red light.

The man continued following the squad, going through red lights until the squad turned off Route 43.

The man was cited for failure to yield for an emergency vehicle and operating without due regard for safety.

Meanwhile on April 18, a person reported finding a bicycle in a dumpster at Barrington Town Square. Officers removed the bike and took it to the police station, where it was claimed by its owner.

Animal incidents

April 16 -- Dogs fight. A woman reported while walking her dog on Burgess Circle, a large dog ran up and attacked her dog. Officers said a neighbor came to their rescue and drove the woman and her dog home. Neither of them were injured.

April 21 -- Girl bitten. An Aurora man reported his daughter was bitten by a dog at a school baseball field. The dog's owner was contacted and provided the dog's veterinarian records.

Drug-related cases

April 16 -- Paraphernalia. During a traffic stop in the 1200 block of East Mennonite Road, a Mantua man was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia. Because records showed he had a warrant, he was turned over to Portage County sheriff's deputies.

April 22 -- Possession, incorrigibility. Officers located a runaway juvenile in a wooded area near the high school and charged him with possession of marijuana and incorrigibility. The boy's father had reported the day before that he did not return home or report for school. The 17-year-old was taken to the Portage-Geauga Juvenile Detention Center.

Fight, domestic dispute

April 22 -- Fight probed. Police were summoned to Sunny Lake Park for a report of a fight. The parties were questioned, but no charges were filed because of conflicting stories. No injuries were reported. The incident was forwarded to the Portage County prosecutor's office for review.

April 23 -- Domestic violence. A man in the northwest part of town was charged with domestic violence after police said he had a physical altercation with his wife. No injuries were reported. He was taken to the Portage County Jail.

Traffic-related cases

April 19 -- Ignoring stop light. A driver was cited for not obeying a traffic signal in the 100 block of South Chillicothe Road after officers said he struck another motorist at the intersection of Pioneer Trail. No injuries were reported, and no damage estimate was given.

April 20 -- Deer struck. A woman reported she struck a deer while traveling south in the 1000 block of North Aurora Road. No damage estimate was given.

Miscellaneous cases

April 20 -- Mail harassment. A Four Seasons man reported he was receiving harassing letters from a friend of the family. The suspect was contacted by police and advised not to have further contact.

April 21 -- Phone harassment. An Aurora woman reported she was receiving harassing phone calls on her cell phone. The suspect was contacted by police and advised not to have further contact.

April 21 -- Shoplifting. Charges were pending against a person after officers found two pairs of shoes, two packs of briefs and three pasta roller sets in the individual's rental car at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets after a business employee alerted them of a possible shoplifter. The items were valued at about $570.

April 21 -- Camera found. An Aurora woman turned in a digital camera she found at Kiwanis-Moore Playground. No value was given. It was being kept at the police station until claimed by its owner.
