Rick Calabrese, a resident of Duneden, has been nominated to receive a rose courtesy of the Advocate and Aurora Florist's Country Owl. He was nominated by Eggleston Road resident Scott Haseltine.
"As I was raking litter -- including sunglasses, an egg carton, pizza box, beer cans, plastic bags and candy wrappers -- from the muddy ditch in front of my house, a total stranger pulled his truck over to the side of the road, jumped over the ditch and started pickup up muddy garbage and stuffing it in the trash bag I brought," wrote Haseltine.
"Not only did this grubby chore get done in less than half the time it would have taken to do it by myself, Rick actually thanked me -- almost as much as I thanked him -- for keeping up the neighborhood."
Persons who do good deeds for individuals, groups or the community as a whole are rewarded with roses.
Nominators should include their own names and the addresses of the recipients. Only those who live or work in Aurora can be nominated. Nominators should jot down a few paragraphs describing the kind act.
