Fisher, Ryan to attend
Democratic fundraiser
Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan will be the honored guests April 28 at a Portage County Democratic Party fundraiser at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown.
Craig Stephens, chairman of the county Democratic Party, said from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Fisher and Ryan will be on hand. Funds raised will be used for the 2008 election.
Tickets for the chair's circle benefit are $500 per person and $750 per couple and include a cocktail party and hors d'oeuvres. A recognition awards reception will take place at 6:30.

Health fair set April 17
The Streetsboro Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a health fair April 17 from 3 to 8 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church Hall on Route 14 east in Streetsboro. Admission is free.
Free health screenings, chair massages, plus health and fitness guidelines will be available. Raffle prizes and free giveaways also are planned, an attendees will get free goodie bags.
Senior spelling bee set
at Coleman Day Center
The fourth annual Northeast Ohio Senior Spelling Bee will be May 3 at Coleman Adult Day Services in Ravenna. It is for adults 55 and older.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three spellers. First prize is a round-trip to the National Senior Spelling Bee in Cheyenne, Wyo. Second is two tickets to the 25th Putnam County Spelling Bee at Cleveland's Playhouse Square and third is a set of gift certificates to Wal-Mart and Applebee's.
Registration is at 10:30 a.m., with the bee at 11, followed by light refreshments. Coleman Day Services is at 6695 N. Chestnut St., Ravenna.

Old computer dropoff
planned in Streetsboro
Some Portage County high schools are participating in an old computer recycling challenge this spring.
The closest participant to Aurora is Streetsboro, where area residents can drop off old computer equipment from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22 to 28 at 1888 Route 303 near the intersection of Page Road.
Residents can drop off monitors, keyboards, printers, mice, terminals, scanners, modems and external drives.

Many gardening books
offered at Hudson sale
A selection of gardening books will be featured at the next Friends of the Hudson Library book sale, scheduled for April 17 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The featured items include a variety of books on landscape design, herb and vegetable gardens, indoor and outdoor gardening, flowers and flower arranging.
Also featured will be a large selection of books written in Japanese. A collection of special priced children's books also has been carted for the sale.
Friends of the Library members ask the community to remember the book sale room when spring cleaning this year.
Clean, undamaged books, CDs, videos and vintage and collectible books are always welcomed as donations to the book sale room.

Hattie Larlham plans
its annual golf outing
Hattie Larhlam will host its 22nd annual Sugar Bush Golf Classic on May 21 at Sugarbush in Garrettsville. It benefits children and adults with disabilities.
During the past 21 years, the golf outing has raised more than $380,000 in net proceeds.
The day will begin at 7 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast. A shotgun start, two rounds of golf, and lunch will follow. The day will end with an awards dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The event will include a variety of contests, raffles, and grand prize drawings. Cost is $125 for individuals or $500 for each foursome registering.
The Sugar Bush Golf Classic is presented by Sugar Bush Golf Club and the Middlefield Banking Co. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
