HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Aurora Historical Society will offer a workshop titled "A Family's History of Favorite Recipes" April 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. on Aurora Library's lower level.

Dr. Martha Pallante, chairman of the history department and professor of history at Youngstown State University, will teach from 20 to 30 participants how to collect, record and create a family cookbook as a way to chronicle a favorite and fun part of a family's memories.

Participants are asked to take three family recipes and Pallante will take them through the steps necessary to properly preserve the recipes and memories associated with them.

MASONIC LODGE 606

The W.K. Ricksecker Aurora Masonic Lodge 606 will sponsor a friendship night April 22 at 6, with a speaker Chuck Berry from the Cleveland Masonic Library.

Friendship night is for Masons and non-Masons, their wives and children and invited guests who would like to learn more about Masonry or might be interested in joining the lodge.

Today, there are more than 2 million Freemasons in North America. The 114,000 Masons in Ohio provide about $15 million in charitable giving each year.

In the past year, they gave $50,000 in college scholarships, contributed a record $200,000 to Special Olympics Ohio Summer Games and funded $70,000 in free training for Ohio school teachers.

Ohio Masons are celebrating the bicentennial of the statewide organization, the Grand Lodge of Ohio. It was created Jan. 3-8, 1808, at the old Statehouse in Chillicothe.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

A business after hours will take place April 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Graphic Disclosure, 6442 Metro Court, Unit B, Bedford Heights. Chamber members from Aurora and Solon are invited.

A Portage County super networking breakfast will be April 25 at 7:30 a.m. at the Bertram Inn. Reservation are due by April 21 at 330-562-3355. Cost is $10 for Chamber members and $15 for non-members.

A business to business show for Aurora, Solon and Twinsburg Chambers will be May 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Signature of Solon. Seventy-five exhibitors will be on hand, with free health screenings, food and business workshops.

Chamber night at Aurora Community Theatre will be May 16 for "Cabaret." Cost is $12 for members, including a wine-cheese party at 7 p.m. Reservations are due by April 20.

The Chamber's annual golf outing will be June 5 at Aurora Golf and Country Club. Golf and a steak dinner cost $125 per person.

The annual Aurora WineFest will be Sept. 13 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Thorn Creek Winery and Gardens on Treat Road.

BLOSSOM WOMEN

Aurora Blossom Women's Committee will host a coffee for potential new members April 24 at 10 a.m. at a Walden residence.

BUSINESS NETWORK

The Aurora Borealis chapter of Business Network International has planned a visitors day April 18 at 7:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

The catered event is open to any business interested in finding out more about BNI. Bob Willis, area director for the Northeast Ohio Region, will be on hand.

BNI is a business and professional networking organization whose primary purpose is to exchange qualified business referrals.

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

The Young Professionals Group of Portage County will meet for the first time May 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Twin Lakes Country club.

Cost for the event is $10 to enjoy hors d'oeuvres and have a chance to mingle with other young professionals in the area. An open cash bar will be available.

All aspiring current and/or soon-to-be professionals between ages 21 and 40 are encouraged to get involved in the group.

Membership is free to employees of businesses belong to any of the Portage County Chambers of Commerce. An introductory rate of $50 per year is charged for those not members of a Chamber.

BAR ASSOCIATION

The Portage County Bar Association will celebrate law week with courthouse tours and a Law Day banquet May 8 featuring attorney Thomas A. Mesereau Jr. as speaker.

Mesereau is a celebrated criminal attorney who has defended Michael Jackson, Robert Blake and Mike Tyson, among others.

DEMOCRATIC COALITION

The Portage Democratic Coalition will host a potluck dinner and business meeting April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Kent VFW Post 500 off Stow Road.
