Choirs at AHS busy; boosters seeking members

The following items are reprinted from the Aurora High School Communicator newsletter.

The AHS vocal music department is preparing for its spring concert May 8 at 7:30 p.m. It will be based on music from Disney movies and TV shows.

Senior Billy Eline designed the original concept of the program. Songs from "Cinderella," "The Lion King," "Pinocchio," "Mulan," "Aladdin" and "Beauty and the Beast."

Since the Ohio Music Educators canceled its district contest, the AHS Chamber Singers will participate in the state contest in May.

The annual choir awards will be May 21 in the high school auditorium. A reception will precede the awards.

The choir boosters are always looking for parents and friends of the vocal music department to volunteer time and energies. For details, call 330-562-9646 ext. 3988 or e-mail rwason@aurora-schools.org.

Emerald Ensemble and GemTones Show Choir audition date and time will be announced. Choral groups will perform at baccalaureate May 27 and commencement May 29.

The junior-senior prom will be May 10 from 6 to 11:30 p.m. at the Bertram Inn. Tickets are $45 each or $90 per couple. Information is available from Michele Dirda at 330-562-9646 ext. 3608 or mdirda@aurora-schools.org.

Every senior will receive six tickets for commencement with senior information and their caps and gowns at the senior breakfast. A limited number of extra tickets will be available May 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. All fees must be paid before the senior breakfast.

The fifth annual video broadcasting program film festival will be May 16 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Brent Overholt will be teacher David Strukel's first four-year student next year.

Excel TECC broadcasting classes went to he International Film Festival recently to see a documentary called "Jump! Jump!" about competitive jump roping.

AHS student Keith Schmader was featured in the March edition of Future CEO Stars magazine. He established his own company called Shmay.

Thanks go to Melissa Lindley for helping coordinate the Rotary four-way speech contest. Annick Dall, Candice Pipoly and Liesel Schmader placed first, second and third, respectively, in the contest.

One hundred sophomores will travel to Chicago the weekend of April 18, while the spring musical "Grease" will be April 25-27.

Other AHS dates are: April 11 -- senior internship applications due and report card distributed; April 12 -- ACT to be given; April 24 -- AHS-Harmon PTO general meeting; April 26-27 -- district art show.
