JAY THOMAS PLACEK

1971 graduate of AHS

Services were April 7 at St. Mary Catholic Church for Jay Thomas Placek, 54, of Aurora, who died April 2 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.

He was a graduate of Aurora High School in 1971 and later from Kent State University. He worked at Design Plastics in Macedonia and enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his sister Katherine Placek of Brunswick; brothers Gary of Georgetown, Ky., and David of Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph I. and Catherine (Smith) Placek, brother Joseph and sisters Patricia Maczko and Donna Downes.

Burial was in Crown Hill Memorial Park in Twinsburg. Arrangements were handled by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home in Twinsburg.

GORDON E. DAVIS

Electrician for 42 years

A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 2 for Gordon E. Davis, 78, of Saybrook Township, who died March 29 at his home.

Born Nov. 28, 1929 in Cleveland, he was the son of James Paul and Louise (Kelz) Davis. He was employed by Elkem Metals for 42 years as an electrician, and retired in 1991.

He was a member of Mount Carmel Church and a charter member of the Saybrook Township Volunteer Fire Department, Ashtabula Rod and Gun Club, Wagon Train and Ashtabula Moose Lodge.

He taught hunter safety classes for more than 20 years, would take a teepee to schools, nursing homes and covered bridges, and rode his quad with the Ridge Runners.

Survivors include his wife Leone (Harmon), whom he married Nov. 17, 1951; sons Gordon Paul (Agnes) of the Philippines and William (Tina) of Aurora; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; brothers George (Betty) of Sheffield, Bill (Theresa) of Saybrook, Joe of Sheffield and Clifford "Skip" (Margaret) of Jefferson; sisters Mary Lou (Tim) Askey of Ashtabula and Peggy (Don) Anastasia of Geneva; and sister-in-law Dorothy (Joe) Frohnaple of Ashtabula.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Larry P. in 1979 and brother James J.

Burial was in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Ashtabula. Arrangements were handled by Fleming and Billman Funeral Directors.
