Police News: Officers nab juvenile who tried to pilfer bicycle

Aurora -- Local police officers thwarted the theft of a bicycle March 24 in the Geauga Lake neighborhood.

The department received a call from a Moneta Avenue resident who spotted a juvenile riding off with a bike that was in the resident's yard.

Officers apprehended the Eastlake juvenile down the street, charged him with theft and referred him to juvenile court.

The bike was recovered.

Meanwhile, five other thefts were reported to police in recent days.

On March 20, A Winchell Road man reported two transactions were placed on his credit card without authorization. The report did not specify the amount. The man said he had since closed the account and was dealing with the ID theft solutions department at his bank.

A Macedonia woman reported March 21 that someone used her credit card to make unauthorized purchases in Aurora. The amount was not disclosed.

On March 22, a Lorain man reported someone stole $160 in cash from his wallet while he was in a local spa.

On March 25, a woman reported a CD player and about 50 CDs were stolen from her unlocked vehicle while she was at work on North Aurora Road. The loss was estimated at $600.

Another person reported the theft March 26 in the 800 block of North Aurora Road of a Nintendo Wii game valued at $266.

Miscellaneous cases

March 20 -- Harassment. An Aurora man reported he was receiving unwanted harassing messages from a woman he had met recently, and the woman came to his home uninvited. She was contacted by police and told to have no further contact with the man or charges could be filed.

March 25 -- Dispute. No charges were filed after a domestic dispute in the Geauga Lake area. Officers said a woman who lived in the home reported a man who also lived there kicked in a door. The woman claimed the man wasn't supposed to be there at the time.

March 26 -- Possible arson. The fire department extinguished a fire in a dumpster at Barrington Town Square. Police are investigating the case as a possible arson.

Traffic-related cases

March 20 -- Car hits tree. An Aurora man told police he hit a patch of ice and lost control of his vehicle in the 900 block of Eggleston Road. Police said the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a tree. No injuries occurred, and no damage estimate was given.

March 22 -- Citation. A Chagrin Falls woman was cited for failure to control after police said she slid on the snowy road into a Hiram man's car in the 1200 block of East Garfield Road. No injuries or damage estimate was reported.

March 24 -- Rear-end crash. No citations were reported after police said an Aurora woman struck an Aurora man's vehicle from behind in the 100 block of South Chillicothe Road. No damage estimate was given.

March 26 -- Car scratched. An Aurora man said his vehicle was scratched on its passenger side rear fender while parked at Barrington Town Square. No damage estimate was given.
