Aurora -- A North Carolina man was charged with grand theft after a resident reported his car and some cash was stolen.
A Buckingham Drive man told police a friend who was staying at his home Feb. 24 took his 2006 Jeep Wrangler and $4,300 in cash.
Grand theft charges were filed and a warrant was issued for the North Carolina man's arrest. The undamaged vehicle was recovered the next day at Cleveland Hopkins Airport.
In an unrelated case Feb. 26, a Geauga Lake area woman said she allowed her boyfriend to borrow her vehicle, but he did not return it.
The victim informed police the next day she found her car in Cleveland. It was parked downtown and there was no damage.
Police said at press time no charges had been filed.
Arrested on warrants
Feb. 22 -- A Streetsboro man was arrested on a warrant from Aurora for assault. He was taken to the Portage County Jail.
Feb. 24 -- During a traffic stop, officers found a Bedford man was wanted on a warrant from Cleveland Metroparks. He was cited for possession of marijuana by the APD and turned over to Metroparks security officers. It is not known what the warrant from Cleveland Metroparks is for.
Feb. 25 -- An Akron woman was arrested by Fairlawn police on a warrant from Aurora for failure to appear in court. She was taken to the Portage County Jail.
ID theft, shoplifting
Feb. 22 -- Identity theft. An Aurora man reported someone attempted to use his personal identification to charge an unspecified amount of items over the Internet.
Feb. 23 -- Shoplifting. A Mayfield Heights woman was charged with theft after police said she took items valued at $23.25 from a business at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets.
Damage from potholes
Feb. 27 -- Tire damaged. A Mentor man reported a tire and rim on his vehicle were damaged when his wife struck a pothole on Route 306. Also that day, a Windham man reported he struck a pothole on Route 306 and bent a rim on his vehicle. No damage estimate was given.
Traffic-related cases
Feb. 20 -- OVI citation. A Burton man was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and obstructing official business at Barrington Town Square. Police said the man was found sitting in his vehicle after it reportedly was involved in a collision in the lot. Police said the man hit a parked car and just missed another, causing minor damage.
Feb. 21 -- Lot collision. Police said an Aurora man backed into another Aurora man's vehicle in a high school parking lot. No damage estimate was given.
Feb. 22 -- Car-snowplow crash. Police said an Aurora man collided with a snowplow in a lot at Aurora Farms Premium Outlets. No damage estimate was given.
Feb. 23 -- Not maintaining control. An Aurora man was cited for not maintaining physical control of his vehicle while under the influence after an officer observed he apparently fell asleep in his stopped vehicle on West Garfield Road.
Feb. 25 -- Suspended license. During a traffic stop in the 1000 block of East Garfield Road, a Cleveland man was cited for having fictitious license plates and driving under suspension.
Feb. 26 -- Deer struck. A Streetsboro woman reported she struck a deer on South Bissell Road. No damage estimate was given.
Feb. 26 -- Suspended license. During a traffic stop in the 200 block of East Garfield Road, a Cleveland man was cited for driving under suspension, having expired plates, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an open container.
Feb. 26 -- Strikes fence. Police said a Hiram man slid off the road and struck a fence on West Garfield Road. No damage estimate was given.
Miscellaneous cases
Feb. 22 -- Car damaged. An Aurora man reported his car was damaged while parked near the movie theater in Barrington Town Square.
Feb. 22 -- Bag destroyed. An Aurora officer observed a small bag of suspected marijuana on a counter at a gas station. It was confiscated and destroyed.
Feb. 24 -- Unruly youth. A juvenile was referred to another agency for evaluation with recommendations for him to be charged with unruliness after the boy's father took him to the police station.
