AURORA MENNONITE

The youth groups at the church will have a Valentine's Day fundraising dinner Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. The entree is breaded chicken parmesan, with potato, vegetable, dessert and drink. Cost is $12 for each meal.

The church also will sponsor a community dinner Feb. 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to raise funds for its annual auction in June. Chicken parmesan, pasta, salad bar, dessert and drink will cost $8.50 for adults and $4.50 for children ages 4 to 10.

The church is located at East Mennonite Road and Route 43. Reservations for the youth fundraiser are suggested by calling 330-562-8011, and further information is available at that number.

CHAPEL-TINKERS CREEK

The Chapel at Tinkers Creek has added Kasey Parmelee as youth pastor. He has served part-time at the church since 2005 while working full-time as program director for Camp Carl in Ravenna.

Parmelee enjoys tennis, photography and outdoors activities. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in youth ministry from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

He is married to Jamie, an adjunct professor at Kent State University, and the couple expects their first child in the summer.

The church meets weekly at Streetsboro Middle School, and plans to eventually build on its 24-acre Page Road property in Streetsboro.

OUR LADY CATHOLIC

New members are needed for church choirs. The Sunday choir practices Thursdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and the funeral choir practices Mondays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. For details, call Barb Dzurilla at 330-562-7486.

Sacrament of Reconciliation will be observed tonight (Jan. 23) at 7. At the next youth ministry gathering Feb. 3, members will make Super Bowl subs in the morning.

Baptized recently were Michael E. Fischer and Ian M. Lassiter.

Barb Biben, Vic Corsi and Mary Hanna will speak about how their faith has sustained them Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in the parish center.

Other coming activities are: Jan. 24 -- small faith community at 9:45 a.m. and Spirited Seniors at noon; Jan. 26 -- cabaret night.

Jan. 27 -- religious education for grades 6 to 8 at 8:45 a.m., RCIA at 9:40, religious education for preschool to grade 1, co-op nursery and children's liturgy of the word at 10:30.

Jan. 29 -- Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 9:30 a.m. to 6:20 p.m. and Bible study at 9:45.

HOPE LUTHERAN

Couples and links Bible study will resume Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Williamses' home on Kingston Drive. A soup and salad supper will kick off the night, and then the group will view the Paul Meier DVD series "Jesus: Legend of Lord?"

Men's Bible study meets the second and fourth Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at Chuck Godale's home on East Pioneer Trail.

The women's Bible study meets on the first and third Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. Sunday adult Bible class begins at 9:15 a.m.. The class is focusing on the Psalms.

Traditional worship is Sunday at 8:15 a.m., with contemporary worship at 10:15 a.m., along with children's Sunday school. A service takes place Fridays at 10:30 a.m. at Independence Village.

Monthly fellowship coffee hours are back. They are the third Sunday of each monthly after Sunday's 10:15 service. The fifth Sunday will be hosted by the fellowship board.

Item of the month for the Volunteers of America is canned soup. The AA group meets Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. at the church.

LAKEVIEW CHAPEL

"Morning Paper Can Inspire" is the topic of the Jan. 27 sermon at the 10:45 a.m. service. It is part of a five-week series titled "Morning Routines."

Sunday school classes for age 3 to adults begin at 9:30.

The youth group gathers Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. and an adult class meets at 7. The nursery is open that night.

The church hosts a men's Bible study Thursdays at 7:30 a.m. at Starbucks. Local residents do not have to be a member of the church to participate in the activities.

PARKSIDE CHURCH

"Grieving With Hope" is a five-week care group for those who have recently lost a loved one. It will meet Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. from Feb. 14 to March 13.

It is led by Pastor Steve Bickley in Room 226. There is no charge. The church is on Pettibone Road in Bainbridge Township. For details, call Jacque at 440-543-1212.

UNITED METHODIST

A service of ashes is planned on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 7 p.m. People also can receive ashes from noon to 2 p.m.

From Feb. 12 to March 5 on Wednesdays there will be a potluck supper at 6 and Lenten programs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Holy Week schedule will be announced later.

CHURCH IN AURORA

The annual congregational meeting will be Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. One service will take place at 9:30. All newly nominated committee members are asked to attend the annual meeting for an installation ceremony.

Adult Bible study meets Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Harris study. Topic is "Christian Community" by Rob Suggs. For details, call Betsy Tomasko at 330-562-3505.

The 3-H Circle will meet Feb. 1 at 9:30 a.m. to package candy for workcamp and decorate pillows for Portage County nursing homes. For details, call 330-571-4500.

Workcampers are still taking order on Sundays for Super Bowl subs, which can be picked up Feb. 3 in fellowship hall. The next workcamp meeting will be Feb. 10 at 12:30 p.m. at the Escape.

Church members are welcome to join a group for a night out to see "On Golden Pond" at Aurora Community Theatre. Tickets are $12 each.
